About Us:
The Pot Rack has been in the making for over twenty
years since Ollie and Kathryn West first married at Fort
Hood, Texas. After a career in the military for Ollie
and a career in the corporate world for Kathryn (also a
veteran), they moved back to Leavenworth, Kansas – a
place they both can call home.
Interested
in historic preservation and with a love of the
community, Ollie and Kathryn purchased the buildings at
626 Cherokee and opened the door to The Pot Rack in
September 2008. The building and site have a notable
history with still thriving businesses. The Citizen’s
Savings and Loan business began on this site in 1884 and
it is still a viable business in Leavenworth. In 1892,
A.M. Geiger & Co business first hung their shingle at
this location until 1968. Proudly, the Geiger Ready Mix
Company still lives on in Leavenworth, Kansas.
The buildings are located within the downtown Historic
District of Leavenworth, Kansas. This historic district
is a compliment to the seven residential historic
districts in Leavenworth, Kansas.
The community is filled with a mix of long time
residents of Kansas, an ever-changing military mix, and
a large population of retired military families, all
making for a vibrant community. We truly have an
international taste and mixture of cultures normally
felt in cities exceedingly far above the county
population of 60,000
A long standing community of strong and kind people make
up this community on the western edge of the Missouri
river. We have a compliment of rural flare and
international sophistication that is welcoming and
inviting to all those live and visit. We welcome you to
take part and enjoy.
